Interesting post, thanks for this. I wonder if the "lend" feature will ever reach its full potential as long as the device itself is so cost prohibitive for many. Also, I wonder if I could lend across device types, like a Nook to a Kindle? Will a closed system ever really allow for the full potential of the intention?

I'd like to add the Interaction South America conference.
Here ya go: http://www.interaction-southamerica.org/
It's over the US thanksgiving, which means its a great travel time, since the USers all have a long weekend and Sao Paolo will be nice and warm!

Hi Steve,

thanks for a good recap! I thought I'd add something I came across yesterday:

The Design by Fire conference in Utrecht, The Netherlands on October 20th:
http://www.designbyfire.nl/

Sounds like it'll have a fairly intense single-day programme:
http://www.designbyfire.nl/2009/program/index.html

Cheers, <a href="http://twitter.com/jopas" rel="nofollow">Jussi</a>

That's quite a list. Hah, I'll be joining you at #noidea09, too! Sadly, I don't think I'll be at any of these conferences. Maybe I'll apply for the CanUX pass... Thanks for the run down!

Just saw the potential for an immunization debate and thought I would add this regarding immunizations: Research and analyze all available information regarding immunizations. Look at each child's health and your family health histories and make a decision based on what is best for your child. There are some immunizations that can be skipped. There are others that should be more highly recommended.

I don't agree with the reason you posted for Leisa's recommendation on waiting to immunize. I don't think it's a bond of trust issue between parent and child. I had to watch my son get strapped into a chair from head to toe at 8 weeks old for x-rays to find the cause of a heart murmur. That was far more traumatizing than a shot and tears that lasted a few minutes at best. I don't recall any difference in my relationship with my son following that horrid xray event and it went on for more than 20 minutes.

But the choices regarding immunizations are very personal and shouldn't be done just because the govt or health agencies say they should. I'm not sure about the NSW, but here we can opt out. You just have to sign all sorts of paperwork to get the exception accepted by the schools. The rules regarding immunizations are not meant to address everyone. Immunizations are a one-size-fits-most (at best) situation.
